In response to the UK Government’s Budget 2020 , Chris Molloy, CEO of the Medicines Discovery Catapult said:

“Today’s budget announced £200M in funding directly targeted at the life sciences, and dramatically increased scientific research funding, providing more breakthroughs that we can help our sector turn into commercial products. Medicines Discovery Catapult is testament to the Government’s broad ambition to ensure the UK remains a world leader in life sciences research and innovation. I welcome it and the potential it creates.

“The UK is a global hub for biotech and the generation of new medicines. Our tools, skills and network support the UK sector’s mission to create valuable new treatments for patients.  This boost to our national reserves of IP and focussed finance is enabling.

“As a national centre based in the North West, working across all regions, I also welcome the additional £400M in funding for science and technology right across the UK. It will help us to turn more of the whole nation’s great science into new world-class products and services.

“I also welcome the formation of a new blue-skies funding agency. Pioneering with purpose into new areas requires ambition and agility. I look forward to seeing the new agency use this initial £800M to give big new ideas the fuel they need to succeed.”
