Two years after the UK Lighthouse Lab Network processed its first test, the end of March 2022 also coincides with the government’s plan to scale back on Covid-19 restrictions and testing.
Although this means the Alderley Park Lighthouse Lab (APLL) will be demobilised from April, the impact the lab made during the pandemic will leave a legacy that will be recognised for years to come.
The APLL team is delighted to have won a prestigious Bionow Award – an accolade given to honour those most deserving for their ingenuity and dedication, which serves as a fitting memento to the lab’s pandemic response.
The Alderley Park team was recognised in the Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic Award Sponsored by SRG, seeing off tough competition from across the UK, in a ceremony which showcases the very best the UK has to offer across its world-leading life sciences sector.
The APLL received the award for its integral role in the UK’s Covid-19 pandemic response, performing over 23 million Covid-19 PCR tests and training over 1,000 scientists over a two year period throughout the pandemic.
